Our build themes are streamlined in order to arrive at a set that are broader and more universal, which we hope will be more stable over time as AFOL building interests change.
With the fewer themes we have more coordinators per theme so that you, as a builder, have a better chance of finding a coordinator when you have a question. We invite you to read through the detailed descriptions of each theme to find the one that best fits your build based on the aspects of your build that you wish to show off the most.

Requests may be submitted to display multipart collaborative builds or scenes together.
Digital Submissions and 3D Renders are accepted in all categories for virtual convention attendees.
Art is the home for mosaics, sculptures, flora, and fauna. Builds in this category are distinguished by their use of color and shape to create artistic impression and impact.
Fantasy is the home for builds of magic and wonder, swords and sorcery, pirates and swashbucklers, orcs and ogres, dragons and vampires, myths and fairy tales. Builds in this category are distinguished by their ability to tell a fantasy story.
Function is the home of builds that perform a task like holding up a heavy load, following a marked track, moving balls through a circuit, or executing an algorithm. Builds in this category are distinguished by the clarity of their tasks and their ability to accomplish their tasks.
History is the home for builds of people, places, and moments from history. Builds in this category are distinguished by their ability to capture a moment from history and their faithfulness to the best possible understanding of that moment based on research, eye-witness accounts, and photojournalism.
Scale Model is the home for builds that depict an object, vehicle, or structure at a specified scale. Builds in this category are distinguished by their use of parts in representing key details, as well as their thoughtful choices as to what details to omit in abstracting down to the chosen scale.
Sci-Fi is the home of all things science fiction, from 50’s retro futurism to popular space operas to futuristic TV series to gritty “hard” science fiction tales of asteroid mining and space exploration. Builds in this category are distinguished by their ability to tell a story focused on high technology and its ramifications, and their depictions of that technology such as space ships, mechs, space stations, and colonies.
Town and Country is the home for builds that depict a slice of everyday life, from the bustling big city, to the dusty frontier town, to the working family farm, to a pristine nature trail. Builds in this category are distinguished by their ability to tell a story of daily life, and the relatability of their characters and environments.
